ICNIRP Statement: Gaps in Knowledge Relevant to the "Guidelines for Limiting Exposure to Time-Varying Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields (100 kHz to 300 GHz)”
30 Jan 2025
To provide NIR protection guidance, ICNIRP looks at what research currently knows about the health effects of exposure to NIR in a particular frequency range. As it goes with science, research reveals also the boundaries of existing knowledge. A new ICNIRP publication takes a closer look at the knowledge gaps in the RF range. Unlike a research agenda, the ICNIRP statement focuses only on research pertaining to protection guidance. ICNIRP encourages the research community to further analyze specific points, in particular how heat induces pain in relation to RF, how and when body temperature increases during exposure to multiple EMF sources and how RF exposure affects the eye. Further, ICNIRP proposes additional dosimetry studies to both contribute to best practice in future research, and also to improve the application of exposure restrictions in future RF guidelines.
