ARPANSA released Radiation and Health Factsheets
Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) publishes a comprehensive range of fact sheets on issues relating to radiation and health, the result of extensive research on the subject.
The summary of the factsheets on non-ionizing radiation are as follows:
- Electricity and Health: The scientific evidence does not establish that exposure to the electric and magnetic fields found around the home, the office or near powerlines causes health effects.
- Measuring Magnetic Fields: Magnetic fields within homes can vary at different locations and also over time.
- Broadcast Towers and Health: Based on current research there are no established health effects from the low RF EMF exposure encountered by the public from broadcast towers.
- How to Reduce Exposure from Mobile Phones and other Wireless Devices: There is no established scientific evidence that the use of mobile phones causes any health effects. However the possibility of a small risk cannot be ruled out. There are things one can do to substantially reduce exposure.
- Microwave Ovens and Health: There is no established evidence that microwave ovens cause any health effects when used according to the manufacturer's instructions and maintained in good working order.
- Mobile Phones and Health: There is no established scientific evidence that the use of mobile phones causes any health effects.
However, some studies have shown a weak association between heavy mobile phone use and brain cancer.
- Mobile Phone Base Stations and Health: Based on current research there are no established health effects that can be attributed to the low RF EMF exposure from mobile phone base station antennas.
- National Broadband Network Fixed Wireless Base Stations and Health: Based on current research there are no established health effects from the low level exposure to the RF EMF from NBN base station antennas.
- Smart Meters and Health: There is no established scientific evidence that the low level RF EMF exposure from smart meters causes any health effects.
- Wi-Fi and Health: There is no established scientific evidence that the low exposure to RF EMF from Wi-Fi adversely affects the health of children or the general population.
